Web Design: This Took Me Longer Than Expected
So this blog is in regard to web design. What does it mean to me? Well, as an advertising student, I never really had a focus on web design. But any designer can realize how important the internet is for communication. Good design is the most powerful thing any art major can achieve. Speaking specifically web design, the mood for the site can make or break a deal, and the layout can calm or infuriate a potential customer.

I read an article that focused on color selection. (I couldn’t find anything specifically on the design process…)

Color is very important and should not be the last issue to a website. Or any art work, really! Many things will account for what colors should be used such as culture, background, etc. The article explains which colors are typically used for certain websites- like girly websites. Most likely you’re not going to use a bunch of neutral colors, but vibrant or pastel mixes. The article recommends pinks, lilacs and whites for feminine websites, but women are known to react to color, so even a professional website should consider color very important… Men are known to react more to numbers— both genders are sensitive to layouts.
With the internet, information is available in just moments. As such, a typical person has a specific interest in a site and wants information to be readily available. So far, I think a site should be colors/graphics, layout and then navigation. But of course at this time I think I’m more of an audience than a web designer so my comments are strictly consumer related.

Although the article recognizes that it is merely suggesting what good combinations one could use, it is still a great way to jump start a new website. And also reveals another correlating factor which should be considered in web design; trends. Overall, I really liked the new suggestions and the examples posted.
For those of you who have not spoken with me, which is more than few, I still consider myself a beginner in graphic design- I came to the Art Institute to start a career in advertising so that I could do portraits on the side… And not be homeless while doing so. I like speaking with people and figuring things out- Web design, frankly, scares the hell out of me. But it’s something I think is necessary for all designers. So I’m up for the challenge. Hey there lady, I am going to focus ont he second article since it is the one that caught my attention. But i think it is funny how the auther actually went about clasifying the inforation as a fashion type style. This is what is hot? How do we really decide what is hot when? I must admit the idea behind the article struck me as something taht can work. But are we going to go in web design as far as they have gone in the fashion industry and dictate what is hot and what is not?
Web designing and graphic designing are hand in hand. The only difference is that we make them interactive. While at this school we are pounded on the head over and over about how important the design has to be (layout, color scheme, graphics, typography, ect…). The companies that we will be working for will place their brand’s image into our hands, and hope that we dont screw up.
Anyway, I think it is great that you are taking this class, and adventuring into uknown territory (scripting). I wish you the best of luck. I am also new at this, and untill a few quarters ago I had no idea how fun designing websites can be. It is just another way for us to feed our creative side.
